On the afternoon of February 25th, led by Professor Yu Zhiyuan, Arete students had a lively exchange with over 30 Fudan seniors on career interest exploration, professional choices and servant leadership.
The Fudan seniors in attendance were mainly student volunteers participating in the Zhiya Project. In the past year, they have helped 200 local high school students in Shanghai explore their interests, choose their majors and expand their future paths through online and offline means. Through serving others, the volunteers' social responsibility, organisational and management skills and communication skills have also been honed and developed.
Professor Zhiyuan Yu introduced "servant leadership" with the example of the Zhiya Project peer mentoring programme. Working for the benefit of others is the core concept of servant leadership, and the purpose of service is to help improve the well-being of the people you serve, thereby bringing about an improvement in the well-being of society as a whole.
Developing servant leadership requires the ability to care for others, social interaction and problem-solving skills. Volunteers from Fudan University shared their experiences of serving others and promoting their own growth.
Finally, Arete students and the Fudan seniors were divided into four groups according to their specialties - Literature, History and Philosophy, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Science and Technology, Computer Science and Medicine and Health - to discuss issues of interest.
