Temple University was established in 1884 by Russell Conwell as a night school. Currently led by President John A. Fry, the institution enrolls over 30,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

For over 40 years, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) has offered undergraduate and graduate degree programs from Temple University, a public American university, in Tokyo. TUJ has announced an expansion to Kyoto, establishing a new multi-building satellite location. Temple University operates campuses in Philadelphia, Tokyo, and Rome, with this new location in Kyoto.

TUJ's Kyoto expansion provides an additional study location in the Kansai region. This development extends Temple University's international presence.
