University of Sussex

The University of Sussex is the first "plate glass university" established in the UK after the new wave of universities began in the 1960s. The University of Sussex is located near Brighton, the most vibrant beach town in the UK, in East Sussex, and is the only university in the UK to be located in a national park, the scenic South Downs National Park.

The University of Sussex is a leading research-intensive university near Brighton. We have both an international and local outlook, with staff and students from more than 100 countries and frequent engagement in community activities and services.

The University of Sussex has 16,820 students (2017-18 full-time equivalent figures), of which around a quarter are postgraduates. 76% of our student population are UK or EU students and 24% are overseas students.

Creative thinking, diversity in our teaching, intellectual challenge and interdisciplinarity have always been fundamental to a Sussex education.

The University of Sussex is ranked 160th in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 15th in the Times Higher Education 'Golden Age' University Rankings. The University has a strong international reputation in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, with seven disciplines ranked in the top 100 worldwide: anthropology, communication and media studies, English language and literature, geography, history, political science and sociology. Computer science and artificial intelligence-oriented majors are among the most popular high-end technology majors.
